 Clinical Activities

The Sexually Transmitted Disease Care Service carries out free consultations for suspected STDs or dermatosis of the genital area in males and females of all ages. Consultations  and information on STDs, HIV, and prevention are also available at the Institute.

The STDs Care Service is one of the participating Centres of the National Epidemiological Surveillance System of STDs, coordinated by National Institute of Health (ISS). This Care Service adopts diagnostic and therapeutic STD protocols of the Center of Disease Control and Prevention of Atlanta (MMWR 2002), and by the Italian Society of Dermatology and Venereology (SIDEV 1997) and SIMAST. to which it has contributed to its guidelines.

 Medical Visits/Exams

All up-to-date clinical controls and laboratory tests are carried out according to the national and international guidelines on the diagnosis of STDs. Sierological, microbiological and molecular biology examinations are carried out for syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia infections, condyloma acuminatum, genital herpes, molluscum contagiosum, urethritis, and vulvovaginitis etc.
 

Blood withdrawals regarding the above are carried out by the Institute’s personnel, while the Microbiology Unit deals with withdrawals and carries out bacteriological and biomolecular examinations (Chlamydia T., N. gonorrhea, T pallidum, HPV, HBV e HCV, HSV 1-2, HIV 1-2, HHV8, mycoplasms, germs and fungi of the genitals). This Care Service provides gynecological consultations as well as psychological and psychotherapeutic assistance for issues related to sexual behaviour, STDs and HIV infections. It also cooperates with social workers regarding patients’ rights and the use of the socio-health care resources of the territory. 

 Where/How to gain access to the Division

Infectious Disease Dermatology Unit ISG carries out its services from Mondays to Fridays. Closed on Saturdays.


All medical visits, tests and medication consignments are available by making a reservation via CUP (Tel. 803333) in accordance with the instructions specified by the Medical Officer’s Office.

Entrance to the Institute is free for all, including minors.

Before all medical consultations/visits patients must go to the Hospital Admissions Desk (next to the Clinics).

Medical Visits and consultations are carried out on all individuals including minors
- with suspected sexual infections
- with dermatologic diseases affecting the genital area
