Clinical Activities

The Division of Thoracic Surgery applies the most advanced techniques for the diagnosis and treatment of all cancer diseases of the chest. Thanks to the special interest and extreme surgical competence, it has become a reference center in the surgical treatment of lung cancer invading the chest wall and malignant tumors of the pleura. The Division is at the forefront in the treatment of primary and metastatic tumors of the lung, thymus, mediastinum, esophagus and trachea using highly sophisticated major surgery techniques (tracheobronchial plastics and pulmonary artery) and mini- invasive diagnosis and staging procedures (mediastinoscopy, anterior mediastinotomy, VATS) and treatment of malignant pericarditis and pleural effusions (VATS with biopsies and talc in the pleural cavity).

Besides its clinical and surgical activities the Division of Thoracic Surgery is dedicated to scientific research and actively participates in national and international research studies.
